Last Day

Winnie's last day of preschool (for this year) was today. We had a great year in the purple room at Clayton Academy! Her teachers were so sweet and loving. It turns out, Mommy had a harder time dealing with the good-byes than Winnie...I was crying on the playground.
I was a preschool teacher before I had kids, so I know how taxing it can be. I just get overwhelmed when people love my kids well. As a mom, it's really nice to be on the receiving end of a loving teacher.

Winnie busied herself yesterday making these frames for her 4 teachers. We also got them Blessings Baskets, but I think the Winnie-made photos were a bigger hit--we got some tears!

Her lead teacher, Miss Jenny. She is a superstar.

The two little girls on the left and the tall boy were Winnie's favorite purple room friends. The gals and W would go on "princess hunts" during recess, and I still don't really understand what that game was all about. And the boy was one of the only males in the class, was potty-trained, and was about as tall as a six year old, so you can imagine his dream-boat status. I love how preschoolers look so disheveled and rag-tag! Lots of picking-their-own-clothes going on in this shot!
We are looking forward to a fun-filled summer!

Sonya, The Penguin

Winnie was working on some drawing the other day and said she was making pictures for her friends Remi and Sonya. She came and showed me one, and without thinking, I took the crayon and added dots in the eyes and some triangles for webbed feet. I said, "Look! A penguin!" thinking that was great fun and she would love it. Winnie immediately burst into tears and exclaimed, "I didn't want a penguin...that was a picture of Sonya!" She was so sad and devastated. I felt awful for ruining her art and for thinking her interpretation of her friend looked more like the beginnings of a penguin. Mom fail.

(In my defense, it really did look like a penguin's body.)

Arkansas: The Pawpaw Edition

Rush got a lot of "truck time" in my parent's yard...here with Cousin Finn

Rush was thrilled to mow with Pawpaw,

So Winnie also wanted a turn, naturally.

My dad got a lot of arm workouts (and was a great sport), because my kids were constantly asking him to shoot the ball.

They helped my dad with his extensive watering duties,

and became overly excited because Pawpaw announced that he would bring them each their own watering cans.

My little laborers!
Also: On Sunday, we went to a shower for my friend Amber, one of my precious old small group girls. She posted the sweetest picture of her and Winnie that just melts me because of how much I love Amber and how cute Winnie looks and how proud she was of the present she colored for Amber. You can see it here.

Monday

Grandma Linda and I needed to get out the kids out of the house this morning, so we loaded up into the double strollers and walked down to Citygarden for a little romp in the fountains. It was pretty overcast, but the kids didn't seem to mind the cold water or lack of sunshine. As we were drying the kids off to head back home, it started to POUR and we had to make the 12 block walk home in a downpour. It was worth it, though, because the kids gobbled down their lunches and fell straight asleep! I'm so excited for warm weather!

Rush and Hope getting into the swing of things. Sidenote, why do they make boy's trunks SO LONG?!

Winnie and Albert have no problems diving right in

So fun
They were a little worn out, but always so cute!
